Child malnutrition remains an alarming reality in various regions of Mozambique, especially in the province of Zambézia, where thousands of children face extreme difficulties for healthy growth. In the district of Milange, this reality gains even more urgent contours, with children under five years of age presenting evident signs of growth delay, low weight and other severe effects of malnutrition.
Amid this challenging scenario, the House of Joy stands as a true beacon of hope. Directed by dedicated sisters, the institution welcomes and supports children in situations of extreme vulnerability — many of them living with physical or mental disabilities, and other victims of abandonment and extreme poverty.
Recognizing the transformative impact of this work, the Salimo Abdula Foundation joined forces with Casa Alegria through a nutritional support program aimed at combating malnutrition in a practical and effective way. The program consists of the distribution of fortified soy milk and soybeans, foods rich in essential nutrients, for children in primary schools, health centers, orphanages and other social organizations of the district.
In addition to the direct impact on the lives of children assisted by Casa Alegria, the program also benefited families of small farmers outside the district of Milange, severely affected by the passage of the Freddy cyclone, which devastated several communities in the province of Zambézia.
This joint effort reflects the commitment of the Salimo Abdula Foundation to human dignity, child health and sustainable community development. We will continue to support initiatives that promote healthier childhood, with real opportunities for a better future.
